Yes, Virginia, there really
is a Christmas. And, it’s in sunny Florida. It may not see much snow, but the small Post Office near
historical Fort Christmas sees plenty of activity around the holidays.
Christmas Postmaster Dawn
King (above) stated, “Customers come from around the world to have their holiday
cards and mail postmarked ‘Christmas, Florida!’ There are many customers who
plan their vacations around the holidays just to come to the Christmas Post
Office.” The Post Office has been
featured in media coverage around the world.
Customers make traditional
trips to the Christmas Post Office to mail their yearly letter to Santa in the special
Letters to Santa Only mailbox. All
letters with return addresses receive generic responses from Santa’s Helpers at
the Postal Service.
Christmas is located about 20
miles east of Orlando along Highway 50, a road leading to Titusville on the Space Coast.
Mail deposited for processing at the Christmas Post Office during the
holiday season receives the “Christmas, FL” postmark. A variety of holiday rubber stamps (sample
above) are available in the lobby for customers wishing to decorate their
envelopes and packages.
