Javier Is A Hero

Tampa Processing & Distribution Center (P&DC) Tractor Trailer Operator Javier Leon (center) was recognized by (from left) District Manager Eric Chavez, A/Lead Transportation Manager Jose Roman, Transportation Supervisor Iris Spisak-Hawkins, and A/Senior Plant Manager Steve Hardin for his heroic actions.  Leon proudly displayed a Letter of Appreciation from Postmaster General Megan Brennan.

While transporting mail to a postal facility Leon noticed a young girl, about 6 or 7 years old, running across the street in her pajamas.  He quickly pulled over and honked the horn to get the girl’s attention and alert other drivers.  He approached the girl and asked where her parents were.  She replied she did not have a mommy or daddy.  Leon contacted local law enforcement and, along with other Good Samaritans, watched over the child until officials arrived.  Leon was so concerned that he checked back with law enforcement later to ask about the little girl.  He was informed that due to privacy issues, specific details could not be provided, but she was safe with relatives.

Leon (front, second right) was joined by his wife (back, center) and other family members at a celebratory event with his co-workers.

Congratulations and thank you for your heroic actions, Javier!
