Despite bringing on 40,000
seasonal hires for the holidays and converting 63,000 pre-career employees into
career positions, the Postal Service continues to build up its workforce with dynamic
new employee hires. The city of St. Petersburg, FL is no exception.
Officer in Charge Jessie Davis has made it standard practice to welcome new CCAs when they first come on board.
“As we move into the future, we should reach out and talk to our pre-career recruits because they are the employees of the future,” said Davis. “I set the pace by introducing myself and letting them know what the standard is and what the expectations are when they take this journey with the Postal Service.”
It’s not uncommon for Davis to get lots of questions from new hires. He talks about safety and why it’s important. “I want them to come to work and they way they come to work is the way I want them to go home,” he said.
Davis likes to use comparisons to professionals: “When you talk about Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers, I ask them what they see. You see the best of the NFL. You talk about LeBron James or Michael Jordan and you see the best of the NBA. I tell them when I see a carrier in uniform walking down the street, what I see is the best the Postal Service has to offer. There’s nobody who can deliver mail like the Postal Service.”
