With
more than 12 billion pieces of mail and packages processed and delivered during
the 2021 peak season, the Postal Service hired 40,000 seasonal workers to make
the season merry and brighter for its customers.
On the local front, the Seminole Processing & Distribution Center exceeded its hiring goals throughout the pandemic. Just before peak season, the facility fell below CAP by 41 Mail Handlers Assistants (MHA) due to attrition. With support and awareness of the Human Resources Shared Services Center (HRSSC), Southern Area and Florida 2 Workforce Planning Team, Operations Support Specialist Michelle McKesey-Allen responded quickly to the hiring need.
“It took a village to host a successful hiring event for additional Mail Handler Assistants at Seminole P&DC,” said Davina Best, Manager of Workforce Planning & Complement. “Michelle spearheaded a USPS employment informational session with our potential new employees and performed LiveScan fingerprints for over 150 applicants.”
That same weekend, the facility experienced a building power outage and system failure, resulting in 86 applicants being turned away. The applicants were asked to return the following day – a Sunday. Windermere Post Office opened its lobby to accommodate those applicants with acting Administrative Assistant Shital Sanchez coming in on her day off to assist with the event.
Best said that without emergency support from IT Client Support Specialist Emmanuel Aboh, Windermere Postmaster Greg Franks, Windermere Letter Carrier Shanelle Boylan and Operations Support Specialist Thomas Barnett, the hiring events would not have been a success.
Congrats to the Workforce Planning Team, Employee Development and Seminole Management Team for helping to put in place our future career mail handlers for the successful holiday season.
