St. Petersburg, FL, Open Air Station Letter Carrier James Vinson, has been delivering mail on a bicycle for almost two years. The first eight years of his career, he made deliveries in Illinois in an LLV.
"Delivering on a bike isn't as bad as people think it would be," said Vinson, who makes between 500-600 deliveries a day. "Sure, we are out in the heat and the rain, but it kind of gives you a sense of freedom because you're out delivering in the open air."
He said the most challenging part about doing his job is the traffic. "You want to be safe in other postal vehicles, but on a bike, for sure, you want to be on your game all day long."
