No Excuse for Child Abuse

City and Rural Carriers at Fort Myers Tice Station wear blue to bring awareness to child abuse and neglect.

An event to draw attention to the serious public health problem of child abuse and neglect was recently held at Fort Myers stations and MPOO E area Post Offices.

Fort Myers Six Mile Cypress Station Acting Manager, Customer Services Christina Turner organized the event, which encouraged employees to wear blue on April 18th to show their support for victims during National Child Abuse Prevention Month.

"Being an advocate on behalf of survivors of child abuse is close to my heart. I became involved after an incident in my family," said Turner, who was overwhelmed by the participation of employees who wore blue shirts. She said they plan to hold the event again next year.

Fort Myers employees have earned a reputation for being part of awareness for a cause events. On Friday's during December, employees wear red to show support for the nation's military. Every October, employees wear pink to support Breast Cancer Awareness.

It is estimated that at least 1 in 7 children in the U.S. has experienced child abuse and/or neglect in the last year, according to www.DoSomething.org.
