Sanibel Postmaster Tirzah Fulkerson (right) was presented her
Postmaster Certificate from Bonita Springs Postmaster and mentor, Al Gucmeris (left).
“I always knew Terry would become a Postmaster one day. She had the drive and determination
to do so and it has been my pleasure not only to present her with this, but to
mentor her for all of these years”, commented Gucmeris.
Fulkerson’s Grandfather, George Althouse was Postmaster of
Mohnton, Pennsylvania from 1943 to 1972. She spoke of her time as a young girl
playing in his office and how that drove her to work for the Post Office in
1994. Fulkerson described her devotion to continuing her grandfather’s legacy
with a promise she made to him before he passed. As she was sworn in she held
the photo of her grandfather and herself many years ago as an honor to him in
this achievement.
