St. Petersburg Trains for the Unexpected

St. Petersburg, FL, Midtown Station held a Dog Bite Awareness event to help ensure employees are prepared for the unexpected.

The training involved letter carriers using targets and dog spray to perfect their aim thereby lessening the chance of getting bit.

National Dog Bite Awareness week is June 12-18.  Any dog can bite and all attacks are preventable through responsible pet ownership and knowing how to react when confronted by a dog.  Dog attacks are a nationwide issue and not just a postal problem.

“Dog bites continue to be a challenge for us here in St. Pete,” said Postmaster Jackie Villemaire. “We are constantly reminding our carriers to be vigilant while making deliveries. Exercises, such as this, help to prepare them for unexpected encounters with canines.”

Thank you, Lisa and Dave!

Great training helps everyone stay safe, especially when a letter carrier encounters a dog on their route.
