St. Petersburg Euclid Station Letter Carrier Sofia Garcia
loves fashion. The 16-year USPS veteran, who transferred from Anaheim, CA, to
Florida four years ago, is always looking for ways to dress up her postal
uniform. She’s worn scarves for the heat and pins, celebrating her 10-year
anniversary and safe-driving record. Recently, she kicked it up a notch by
incorporating neckwear into her daily uniform. “I saw someone online wearing a
blue tie and thought it was cool,” she said. “My first tie was a blue, so I
figured I’d deviate a little from the blue by going with dots and stripes.”
Along the way, Garcia added more ties to her collection to coincide with
special occasions: Flag Day, Mexican Independence Day and Pride. “I get a lot
of compliments from my customers, who say I look professional or who like a
specific tie because it’s bright,” she said. Has Garcia’s fashion sense started
to influence her postal colleagues? “Not quite,” she laughed. “They like my
style but it’s usually, ‘That’s Sofie, she likes to look nice.’”
