Powers Shares Safety

During a Safety Talk, West Melbourne Letter Carrier Albert Powers (center) tells his fellow employees of a safety violation he witnessed. Powers stated that while delivering his route, a car passed him on the right going 45 MPH and maneuvered in front of him. The driver was looking down and texting on his cellular phone. The traffic ahead was stopped and Albert knew the driver would rear-end the next car. The driver looked up with only seconds to spare and swerved from the left lane to the right lane, without even checking to see if the right lane was occupied.

Powers stressed to his co-workers the importance of not texting and driving while on or off-duty. If the driver had not looked up at that moment, an accident could have occurred, causing injuries and possibly fatalities.
