Protecting Consumers

Postal Inspector Alexandra Papageorge (left) educated customers at the Sun City Post Office about potential scams and fraud during National Consumer Protection Week.  Various videos, pamphlets and brochures concerning phone scams, false lottery winnings and sweepstakes fraud were available for customers.

The majority of residents in Sun City are senior citizens and Postmaster Tina Cochrane (right) was thrilled that the valuable information was provided to the community.  Cochrane stated she recently talked an elderly man out of sending an $800 money order to collect alleged winnings of $30,000, and assisted an elderly woman who was mailing a $4,000 iTunes card to help a nephew who was supposedly in jail in Belize.  The woman soon realized her nephew was not in Belize and Cochrane helped her retrieve her mail.
