Lopez Investigates


Officer In Charge Grand Island Manny Lopez (center) received a Certificate of Appreciation from United States Postal Inspector Service (USPIS) Contractor, Retired Inspector Jack Cowen (left) and Postal Inspector Ed Sanabria (right). Over the past year, Lopez recovered and identified scam mailings targeting potential elderly victims. Many of the mailings were returned to the customers, so they did not lose their money, which in many cases amounted to thousands of dollars.

New Moon Stamps Launch In Suncoast





On July 19 the Postal Service issued the 1969: First Moon Landing Forever Stamps during a ceremony at the John F. Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Cape Canaveral, Florida. The stamps celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing. Left to right:  USPS Vice President Marketing Steven Monteith; retired Astronaut and Scientist Russell “Rusty” Schweickart; USPS General Counsel and Executive Vice President Thomas J. Marshall; KSC Associate Director, Technical Kelvin Manning; Astronaut Stanley G. Love; and KSC Chief Operating Officer Therrin Protze.





Acting Suncoast District Manager Steve Hardin (left) greeted Art Director Antonio Alcala (right), who designed the stamps.

The 1969: First Moon Landing stamps (above). The stamp on the left features Astronaut Neil Armstrong’s iconic photograph of Astronaut Buzz Aldrin in his spacesuit on the surface of the moon, while the stamp on the right is a photograph of the moon that shows the landing site of the lunar module. Leesburg Visits Pre-School


Leesburg Letter Carrier John Richmond (standing center) and Postmaster Kay Tobey (not pictured) visited a local pre-school. The children (above) were given stickers and watched a movie, “Pat the Postman.”


Letter Carrier John Richmond (standing left) showed the children the postal vehicle and explained they should stay safely back when the vehicle is driving up to the mailbox.  He also shared how he delivers mail. The children loved meeting their mailman and learning about the mail.

Pisciotta Retired


New Smyrna Beach Retail Associate Lisa Pisciotta (right) was all smiles when she received her Retirement Certificate from Postmaster Elli Calidonio (left). “Thank you for your dedication to the Postal Service and you will be missed,” stated Postmaster Calidonio.


Pisciotta retired with over 30 years of combined service and was joined by co-workers (above) for the celebration. During her farewell speech, she reminded employees to save their sick leave and was very appreciative of her employment with the Postal Service. Pisciotta plans to follow her passion during retirement, which is painting.

Register To Focus On The Vision




Registrations are being accepted for the Suncoast District Career Conference 2019, to be held on September 21 & 22 at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Lake Buena Vista, 4955 Kyngs Heath Road, Kissimmee FL, 34746.  The theme is “Focus on the Vision…Where we’ve been;
Where we are; Where we’re going.” The Guest Speaker is USPS Southern Area Vice President Shaun Mossman.

Conference registration is $50 payable by check or money order (via PayPal $52) and includes workshops, speakers, networking, breakfast, lunch, awards ceremony and a dance.  Non-registered guests may attend the dance for $15 (check / money order); $17 (PayPal).

Tindell 45 Years And Counting


 
Mid-FL Processing & Distribution Center (P&DC) Mail Handler Gwendolyn Tindell (front row, center) received her 45-year Service Award and pin from Acting Plant Manager Joey Mendoza (right of Tindell). Tindell was surrounded by lots of love from co-workers.
 
Tindell affectionately known as “Mama Gwen” began her postal career on April 17, 1974 in Newark, New Jersey.  She transferred to Mid-FL P&DC as a Letter Sorting Machine (LSM) Clerk in December 1990. In 1991 she became a Mail Handler and currently works as a Business Mail Entry Mail Handler Support Employee. She is also a U. S. Navy veteran.
 
Tindell enjoys her job and co-workers and has accrued over 2,500 hours of Sick Leave. “It is a blessing to not have needed to use the sick leave,” stated Mama Gwen. When asked, what words of wisdom she has for her peers, she affectionately advised: “Work safely! Treat others how you would want to be treated and a little respect goes a long way.”

 
Thank you for over 45 years of loyalty and dedication to the Navy and Postal Service, Mama Gwenl!
